Basement Conversion

Attic Conversion

The original home was a 3 level, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom residence sitting on a 202m² block.

We transformed the property with a series of additions and alterations that completely redefined how the home is lived in. A rear extension opened up the ground floor, connecting to an outdoor composite deck and entertaining area that provides a seamless indoor/outdoor lifestyle. As part of this transformation, a new kitchen was added, designed to be the hub of family living and entertaining. Beneath the home, we carefully excavated a basement level, hand-digging through dense clay soils to create a wine cellar, cleverly concealed with a hidden access point through the kitchen above. The first floor gained a rear balcony, extending the outlook and bringing light deeper into the home, while the attic was converted and extended to form a private master retreat, complete with walk-in robe and ensuite.

The complexity of the build was significant. Hand excavation in tight conditions demanded meticulous planning and coordination, with limited access compounding the challenge. To allow the basement to be safely formed, the entire rear ground floor and first floor were supported by structural steel beams, engineered and installed to carry the load of the home while excavation took place below. The end result is a project that combines hidden structural ingenuity with everyday liveability — a home that feels effortless, but was anything but simple to deliver.
